ON HEIRLOOMS

Use the beautiful cup

Every family has a shelf of things too precious to use — the porcelain, the good linens, the samovar that crossed an ocean. We've decided the opposite. The beautiful cup gets used on ordinary Tuesdays, in the garden, with dirt still under our fingernails. Heirlooms remember best when they're warm.

ON SMALL RITUALS

Ten minutes in the garden

Wellness doesn't need a program. Some days it's ten minutes among the pots: notice what opened, pull one weed, drink one cup slowly, look at the view long enough for a thought to finish itself. Then begin again tomorrow. The garden never asks for more than that.

ON GATHERING

Conversations that outlast the pot

In both of the worlds this family comes from, tea was never a beverage. It was a reason to stay. The table filled, the pot was refilled, and nobody checked the time. We blend our teas for those hours — the second and third cups, when the real conversation starts.
